Grêmio Politécnico da USP
www.gremiopolitecnico.com.brFounded in 1903, Grêmio Politécnico is considered a major student association in Brazil that represents the more than 7,000 undergraduate and graduate students of the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo. Through its history, Grêmio had an important role in the development of the city and the state of São Paulo and had always act to help the Polytechnic School graduate better engineers and more committed leaders. Now-a-days, the organization develops activities in four great areas: acting on academic related matters; executing projects and events; managing enterprises; and promoting social benefit programs. The projects developed by Grêmio focus in giving the students the opportunity to improve their impact in the society, by discussing key-issues for the country development, providing technical expertise and performing cultural activities. Examples of this projects are: the Arts Week (SAPO), that contributes both to the relaxation and the cultural formation of the students; the Political Week (SemaPol), which brings to the School important stakeholders and leaders of Brazil to debate pertinent topics to the context of our country; the Parthenon Courses, that provides short courses in soft-skills and technical abilities; and the USP's international summit on leadership, engineering and smart cities (EILE - Encontro Internacional para Liderança na Engenharia). Under the management branch, the association has three ventures: a copy shop; a cafeteria; and Poliglota Idiomas, a language courses center that attends almost 2,000 students and contributes to the internationalization of the University of São Paulo. The Cursinho da Poli – USP is the biggest social benefit program of Grêmio. It is a preparatory course for the university entrance exams’ that attends low-income youth, giving them the opportunity to get into the top universities in Brazil.
