She founded Catherine Truman Architects in order to pursue a passion for the intersection of architectural and interior design within historic or sensitive settings, in particular with residential-scale work. Her projects encompass both traditional and modern design expression, as no one solution will fit all clients; the design expression is the result of a close working relationship with the individual client to determine the best design solution for their personal, spatial, and aesthetic needs. Her work is characterized by great attention to detail, materials, and craft, and to keeping historic spaces relevant to contemporary life without compromising their history, legacy, or character. Her work is also characterized by a sensitivity to the confidentiality that must accompany the personal relationship between architect and client. Catherine Truman holds a Master of Architecture degree from Yale University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from Dartmouth College. She also completed coursework at the Architectural Association of London’s Graduate Program in Architectural History and Theory.Catherine has worked with the National Parks Service Historic American Building Survey and Historic American Engineering Record, at the Museum of Modern Art, and the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission; she also carried out an international exchange internship with US/ICOMOS in Split, Croatia.
