Benita Baird ([email protected]), former Deputy General Counsel of Turner Broadcasting System and founder of Baird Legal Placement, has a strong background in both the practice of law and legal recruiting and hiring. Having spent the majority of her career as Deputy General Counsel of Turner with responsibility for the recruiting and hiring of lawyers for the Legal Department, Benita brings to legal placement a unique perspective and knowledge base invaluable to candidates and both law firm and corporate clients. Benita earned her undergraduate degree with honors from Princeton University in 1975 and her law degree from Duke University School of Law in 1978. At Duke she was on the Editorial Board of Duke Law Journal and has published in Duke Law Journal as well as The Review of Securities Regulation. After completing a federal clerkship and practicing law at both a national and local law firm, Benita joined Turner Broadcasting System where she spent the last 15 years of her legal career. In addition to recruiting and hiring, as Deputy General Counsel of Turner, Benita directed the legal operations of CNN and other company businesses. During her career, Benita practiced or supervised legal work in the areas of, among others, general contract and licensing, employment, media, copyright and trademark, general corporate and securities, and litigation. Benita is active in the community. She has managed a successful judicial reelection campaign and has chaired and served on community and school boards. Benita has been on the Board of The Schenck School, a school for dyslexic students located in Atlanta. She also has served on and chaired the Board of Senior Citizen Services of Metropolitan Atlanta.
