Construction elements of the hydroelectric generating station include a 7-unit powerhouse complex, concrete spillway, approximately 2.2 kilometers of earth dam structures and 23.0 kilometers of earth dyke structures. The Keeyask Generation Project will be a source of renewable energy providing approximately 695 megawatts of capacity and producing an average of 4,400 gigawatt hours of electricity each year. In March 2014 BBE Hydro Constructors LP (BBE), consisting of Bechtel, Barnard Construction and EllisDon, was awarded a contract by Manitoba Hydro to build a portion of the Keeyask Generation Project on the lower Nelson River in northern Manitoba, Canada. BBE started construction in June 2014; structures work commenced in October 2015, with first power from the plant expected as early as 2020, and a target completion date of the civil works in 2020. The Keeyask Generation Project is a 695-megawatt (MW) hydroelectric generating station that is being developed in a partnership between Manitoba Hydro and four Manitoba First Nations: Tataskweyak Cree Nation, War Lake First Nation, York Factory First Nation, and Fox Lake Cree Nation. Working together, the Partners are known collectively as the Keeyask Hydropower Limited Partnership.
