Founded 60 years ago by pioneering Australian, Dr Catherine Hamlin and her late husband Dr Reg Hamlin, Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia is a healthcare network encompassing the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital, five regional Fistula hospitals, the Desta Mender rehabilitation centre, the Hamlin College of Midwives and over 90 Hamlin Midwifery Clinics across rural Ethiopia. Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia is Ethiopian run and led with 550 Ethiopian staff employed across the network. To date the Hamlin team have treated 60,000 women who have suffered one of the most horrific childbirth injuries - obstetric fistula. Hamlin is also relentless in preventing fistula in the first place through recruitment, training and deploying midwives to rural clinics where they are needed - working to ensure every woman has a safe delivery. The Catherine Hamlin Fistula Foundation is an independent charity established by Dr Catherine Hamlin to raise funds for Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia and other partners using the Hamlin Model of Care to eradicate obstetric fistula. Dr Catherine Hamlin was our Founder and Patron. Her dream is to eradicate obstetric fistula forever, so that every woman can be free from these atrocious internal injuries.
