Purl Alpaca Designs is an upmarket, boutique fashion house and our products are exclusive, design-led and made for our luxurious, 100% pure, British alpaca yarn. We are a 'field to fashion' company. Alpacas are sheared once a year and starting with our own small herd , we prepare, sort and grade the raw fleece only using the very best to make our yarn. We then buy in fleece from other local breeders and alpaca owners so that we keep our carbon footprint very low and can prove provenance for the yarn we make. Spun by a specialist mill in Oxfordshire, we blend the natural fibres to create our wonderful colour range. We don’t dye the yarn. Environmentally aware; even our packaging is made from recycled materials. All our designs are exclusive to us and named after one of the 'fibre providers'. Kari-Helene Rane knits swatch samples of different stitches which in turn, inspire her to create a design which complements both the natural drape and lustre of the yarn, plus the intricacies of the stitch. With both tailoring and knitting as her specialist subjects, Kari-Helene’s designs make truly statement pieces. Purl Alpaca Designs has built a reputation for specialising in producing and selling highly desirable knitting kits and our patterns sell well either as a stand alone product or as part of the knitting kit. In 2013, we are starting to build a wholesale side to our business and will be offering yarn, patterns and kits to a selection of upmarket wool shops.
