WAVAW Rape Crisis Centre

www.wavaw.ca

WAVAW Rape Crisis Centre is a feminist, anti-oppressive, decolonizing rape crisis centre operating on unceded Coast Salish Territories in Vancouver, BC since 1982. WAVAW provides support services to survivors of sexualized violence with shared experiences of gendered oppression: women, Two-Spirit, trans and/or non-binary people. WAVAW's work can be summarized in two key actions we take: we support survivors, and we shift society. We support survivors through our 24-Hour Crisis and Information Line, support accessing the medical and legal systems, and one-to-one and group counselling. We also conduct a program that specifically serves Indigenous survivors and family members of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two Spirit People, as well as a program for gender diverse survivors. We shift society through our educational outreach program, working with teachers, students, and service providers to change the rape culture we live in. WAVAW’s values: We are accountable, non-judgemental, inclusive, visionary, and survivor-centred.
