Garland Ormond International's parent firm, Thomas Garland & Partners, carried out a number of overseas studies during the 1960's, 70's and 80's including feasibility studies and advisory reports, many under the auspices of UNIDO. Those projects included work in Egypt, the Sudan, Bangladesh, Jordan, Fiji, the Gambia, the former Soviet Union and has also completed feasibility studies in Albania for the European Bank For Reconstruction and Development and in Cambodia for UNIDO. In 1989 the then Directors decided that there was a need to establish a new wholly owned subsidiary company, to concentrate specifically on large scale Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering abroad and to make greater use of the extensive skills which the firm had developed in those disciplines. Garland Ormond International was established, as part of the Garland Group, to fulfill this need and the new firm had its primary base in our Limerick office. All of the Directors of GOI are also Directors of Thomas Garland & Partners and staff are assigned from a central pool to each firm as required. Since its inception, GOI has successfully executed projects in Mauritius, Zambia, Uganda, Lesotho, The Gambia, Guyana, Jamaica, Cambodia, Mozambique, Papua New Guinea, Palestine, Slovenia, Albania and Scotland and is currently engaged in a World Bank funded ICT park project in Ghana.
