Men, on the whole, stink at talking about how they’re feeling. We live in a world where the perception of masculinity doesn’t give modern men an outlet to deal with all the shit life hurls in our general direction. And that blows. Adversely poor mental health affects not only the way you feel about yourself, your mental and emotional wellbeing, it also greatly impacts the quality of your experiences and those around you. On average, about six out of eight suicides every single day in Australia are men – and the number of Australian men who die by suicide every year is almost double the national road toll. That’s bloody awful. We believe the antidote to this is simple… conversation. Men are much more comfortable sharing stories and experiences when sat side-by-side. So, where better than gathered by a roaring fire, tinny in hand and spinning a few yarns. And, if along the way we get some stuff off our chest… even better. After going through our struggles as individuals, we recognised that trying to deal with life’s endless shopping-list-of-struggles on your own is an uphill battle. One which you’ll inevitably lose if you don’t have the right people on your team and aren’t encouraged to share what’s on your mind. Campfire was born to reflect on the way masculinity is defined and to see if we can do something about it. Welcome aboard.
