medicine.utah.eduThe Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health was established in 1977 to meet the need for comprehensive occupational and environmental safety and health programs in the West. It is one of 18 National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)-sponsored Education and Research Centers (ERC) in the U.S. After operating solely within the University of Utah School of Medicine for most of its existence, RMCOEH became a partnership between the University of Utah and Weber State University in 2021 as a result of a groundbreaking law passed by the Utah Legislature. RMCOEH's mission is dedicated to protecting workers and their environment through interdisciplinary education, research, and service. We provide: -Comprehensive occupational safety and health graduate and PhD programs -Continuing education, hazardous substance training, OSHA courses, and outreach courses -Research to improve the safety and health of workers -Numerous presentations at regional, national, and international meetings RMCOEH has produced more than 750 graduates, taught more than 150,000 continuing education students, and served more than 3,000 businesses, organizations, and governmental agencies in its history.
