Juan Contreras is an interdisciplinary artist specializing in painting and photography. His work spans from the figurative to the abstract, including documentation of live art performances, exploration of cityscapes and motion photography. Juan is best known for his motion trail images, performing arts photography and colourful oil paintings. He studied Fine Art and Painting Techniques at Emily Carr University and continued honing his knowledge and skills in photography at Langara College in Vancouver BC. Juan began his art career exploring figurative painting, portraits, landscapes and expressing ecological concern in his series Conflicted Landscapes. He also explored the bas-relief techniques with oil paint as the only medium in his series Cabriole: female dancing figures. Juan has exhibited in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, and some of his work is part of private and public collections, City of Burnaby and at the Simon Fraser University. In the latest painting series, Endless Motion, completed in 2021, Juan shifted to a style influenced by his photography practice and kept the colourful theme.
