Materials Life is THE MATERIALS IMAGE DATABASE. This database is composed by macroscopic and microscopic characterization of damaged and sound structures, piping, equipment and other real life parts or semi-finished products. There are several ways of searching the images in this collection, that can be based on the product/application, UNS number, microstructure and damage mechanism. Optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy images are presented, traced to the material chemical composition and properties, as well as the manufacturing process. Also, images of the materials answer to critical conditions that lead to failure are evidenced by fractographies and other characterization techniques that help in the failure analysis. The material damage characterization, recorded in images, is associated to imposed critical conditions that exceeded material capacity, as low temperature, high temperature, cyclic load, impact and aggressive environment, among others. Metallurgical modifications in fabrication by special processes, like cutting, welding and forming, are also evidenced, as well as manufacturing defects. The real life story of a material, illustrated in images, is the promise of MATERIALS LIFE.
