Life begins at Transition House Inc. (TH). It has been this way since 1985 when Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta founded our 501(c)(3) to house homeless men in metro Atlanta, with support from the diocese and the City of Atlanta. It began with a home on Ashby Street, sheltering eight men. Transition house has grown over the years into a premier long term recovery program in the metro area serving homeless veteran and non-veteran men. The Transition House legacy has grown, but the focus on helping others is always our main goal. TH homes are a supportive, therapeutic community where clients continue their recovery. At TH, they are required to follow a case management plan that consist of required attendance at a minimum of three 12-step recovery meetings/week, one group house counseling session per week and one monthly life skills training session per month. In addition, the actual requirements are tailored to each individual’s situation, with goals and objectives tailored to each individual’s needs and circumstances. We have one of the most successful programs for veterans, homeless and addictions in the nation. We now have 78 beds serving veteran men, in 20 houses and/ or apartments throughout the metro Atlanta area. Transition House’s efficiency and effectiveness have led to long term partnerships with the VA Medical Center, Decatur, and Atlanta Community Court’s, DeKalb County Drug Courts, Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles, and Vietnam Veterans of America.
