Age UK Cheshire East is an independent charity, partnered with the national charity Age UK and a member of the Age England Association, the membership and representative organisation for Age UK charities in England. Established in 1988, our area of benefit is Cheshire East. The charity’s mission is: “Improving later life for people in Cheshire East” We organise our activities around three themes: Health and Wellbeing • Social groups such as scrabble, book and art clubs • Counselling – to cope with significant life changes • Gentle exercise classes • Walking groups • Tai Chi • Community Choirs • Men in Sheds • Volunteering opportunities Knowledge • Free information, advice and advocacy in the community • Lifelong learning – computers, the internet and the arts • Training – for professionals to deal with later life issues • Campaigning for and on behalf of older people locally and nationally • Placement service from hospital to long-term care Practical Help • Maximising income including help to complete welfare benefit claims forms • Day services for people with dementia or who are physically frail • Help at Home – a range of services supporting older people to live in their own home for longer • Charity shops – good quality and value clothes, furniture and bric-a-brac. • Recycling - our shops act as town centre recycling points and provide the Charity with funds to sustain our services • Discounted financial products designed for the over 50s
