cara: Chapel Allerton (UK)

www.lovechapelallerton.com

An independent, non-profit making, non-political, social community group run voluntarily by a Committee of 12 local residents in North Leeds, for the enjoyment and benefit of anyone who lives in, works in, shops in, or simply loves Chapel Allerton. Proud of Chapel Allerton, we encourage greater social interaction within the local community, as well as raising funds for good causes. Members benefit from a range of fantastic discounts in shops and restaurants across Chapel Allerton, get to meet lots of like-minded people of all ages, and help raise some funds for local causes along the way. Membership is just £10 a year - money which goes towards running the group, and which member can make back in no time at all. While we met for the first time in October 2009, we implemented a staggered launch - with our first event being Easter 2010, followed by The Big Lunch in mid-July - and only started taking members from July 2010. We have since registered over 2,300 paid-up members, over 3,200 Twitter followers, and over 4,700 followers on Facebook. We have achieved press coverage on BBC1, ITV Calender News, BBC Leeds Radio, BBC Online, and Guardian Online, and were featured on BBC2's 'The Great British Menu' tv programme, in April 2011, and live on BBC1 Breakfast for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. cara was nominated and subsequently shortlisted as a finalist for Community Project of The Year in the Yorkshire Evening Post Community Awards 2010, and was shortlisted in the national 2013 Big Lunch Community Awards.
