The Career Advancement Program
The Career Advancement Program was founded in January 2018. It is a community of young professionals keen on improving the "employability" of young Nigerians. We write on Medium, we run accounts on LinkedIn and Instagram. We organize workshops periodically, to provide insight and teach soft skills. Our methodology is peculiar, facilitators are always young persons, visuals are mandatory and we limit the number of participants for value control. So far, we have organized seven workshops. "The InternShop" (January 2018) provided tips on how undergraduates can secure internships at a top-tier firms. We had sessions on CV building/writing, formal correspondence, interviews and LinkedIn optimization. We shared information about the best firms to intern with and how to ensure the best internship experience. "The UpGRADE" (July 2018) was for first year and second year students, it gave practical advice on how to achieve the best grades. We taught freshmen how to calculate (and monitor) their CGPAs. As well as how to answer exam questions. "The STUD-EO" (September 2018) was organized in collaboration with Victus Chambers. It was a meeting of student business owners were they were taught how to start and scale successful student businesses. We gave freebies - one-on-one sessions and business funding. The "Talk Shop" (February 2019) aimed at developing speaking skills - public speaking, networking and event compering. The "100% Class" (February 2019) trained student leaders and young professionals on the soft skills required to lead organisations. These included man management, networking, pitching, budgeting, fundraising and event planning. N.O.W (Networking, Optimization and Writing) was a three-day webinar (April 2020) that taught young persons how to improve their presence and access opportunities on social media.
