Sketchy Beats Cafe is a non-profit community art and music space. The concept started off as a series of pop-up life drawing sessions incorporating a live DJ, improv dancer and nude model, where the audience was invited to ‘sketch to a beat’. Funds were then raised through a crowdfunding campaign to open a permanent arts space for the local community. Over the past four years it has grown into a collective of musicians, artists and other creatives. During the summer we tour various festivals around the country, bringing this unique fusion of music and art in the form of a stage or workshop. Within the space itself, we have open jamming and sketching sessions during the week - backline and art materials are available for anyone to use. On weekends the space is open to members of the community to host their own events, such as rap battles, DJ nights, charity fundraisers or art exhibitions.
