Indians In London Group
The Indians in London Group (Estd 2004) is a registered community organization (Company number 09929754). Originally formed in 2004 on the social network website ‘Orkut’ and later, in 2012, transitioned onto the current platform on Facebook , the group is also popularly known by its acronym “IIL” or “IIL Orkut Group”. From a small group of Indian expatriates and students in London, today, the group consists of over 27,300 members and is growing every day. With the diverse background of members representing all parts of India, and people of Indian Origin we truly represent the British Indian Diaspora in London & the Home Counties. The group has helped to forge many new bonds; strangers have become friends, friends have become best friends and quite a few have found their soul mates and life partners here. The group is an independent platform to connect with others on social, cultural, educational, economic, and charitable matters. We don’t have any political, religious or regional affiliations and steer clear of these divisions. We take pride in organizing some of the well organised and well attended events and supporting various causes in last 6 years for Indian Diaspora. Diwali 2012 for Aashna house care home residents in London. Rang Barse #Holi events in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 Career planning & next steps 2016 Representation and Exhibition at Indian Independence day 2016 and 2017 Support in hosting INS Tarkash – Indian Naval Ship in London 2017 Diwali in 2016 . Laal Batti Express - Workshop for and by rescued sex workers from India Race for Life for Cancer Research 2009, 2015 ,2017 These activities are primarily aimed at to benefit members of Indian origin , to help them celebrate the events/festivals with like minded friends & extended families or to support causes they care for and believe in, as well as to integrate within UK culture and completely organised by passionate volunteers
