Installation Art & Usable Objects inspired by Oceanography and Astrophysics. Alexis Finch is an Applied Anthropologist and Design Researcher originally from Boston, MA. She first studied Ceramics when she was 16 and was taken by the versatility of the medium, combining sculpture with painting, as well as science with art. Since her first introduction in Amherst, MA at Horizons Arts she has studied at Lill Street in Chicago and gained a Minor in Fine Arts from UChicago. Now, Alexis brings her 10+ years of User Research to her practice, striving to create pieces that resonate not only visually, but physically. Her work is intended to be held and used, while also adding to the aesthetics of a space. Since her work leading the Ideation and Production of the Exploratorium's Cognitive Technologies exhibit, Alexis has returned to her interest in Installation Art. Currently she is developing wall pieces that integrate light sensing technologies with "multiples" as well as a large scale work bringing consciousness to of the orbits of the planets and human made satellites through real time tracking visualized through clay. Alexis is available for Artist in Residency programs, Gallery Exhibition inquiries, Commission Requests, Prototyping / Product Ideation, and work on Immersive Experiences particularly those bridging the gap between Art, Technology, and Every Day Life.
