Women and Law Exeter
Women and Law Exeter is a student-led project in partnership with the University of Exeter's Students as Change Agents scheme. The project strives to draw attention to the challenges faced by women in the legal profession, as well as creating a platform for discussing these issues amongst students, staff, and professionals. Our focus is on the lack of women in top positions in the judiciary and in law firms, as well as the masculine bias of the law and legal system. Beyond this, we strive to challenge the value of firm policies such as target setting and quotas, seeking to identify new strategies and opportunities to improve the gender balance in the legal sphere. Women and Law hosts several events at the University to Exeter throughout the academic year to address these issues, inviting prominent speakers, law firm representatives and careers advice professionals to empower students and engage all genders in this pertinent conversation. Women and Law also operates a mentor scheme that pairs career-focused students with professionals in the field. Our content writing group also regularly publishes commercial updates, opinion pieces and academic articles to reflect current affairs and legal developments. Please don’t hesitate to contact us to get involved with Women and Law in any capacity.
