Indonesia Transportation Change (NGO)

To achieve sustainability in mobility, children need to learn to use public transport as they will be the majority users of public transport in the future. However, public transport condition in Jakarta Greater Area today is not very supportive as the public transport is less prominent, only serving 15% out of 40.5 million trips (Kompas, 2017), and it is also dangerous as shown by an increasing rate of traffic incidents towards children (BPS Jakarta, 2017). Furthermore, a research by Economist Intelligence Unit on global cities’ safety in also shows that Jakarta is one of the most dangerous city in the world: scoring 0 out of 100 in terms pedestrian friendliness and 99 out of 100 in terms of the frequency of vehicular accidents (2017). This condition hinders the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals number 11, ”(to) make cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable” (United Nation, 2017), in Jakarta Greater Area. Therefore, Indonesia Transport Change (IntraChange) took initiative to address the urgent need to teach children in Jakarta Greater Area on using public transport and safety along the trip. Understanding that this initiative will not solve the problem from transport infrastructure and services provision and quality, we are firm to say that IntraChange will help reducing the gap of concern in safety issues for children in using or being around public transport in Indonesia, including Jakarta Greater Area. IntraChange’s mission is to equip children with necessary skills and etiquettes to encourage children to enjoy using public transport and to prioritize safety before anything else. IntraChange is led by a set of management leadership board and technical leadership board under supervision of highly-influential figures in advisory board. For its projects, we will be supported by volunteers with various backgrounds that are trained to deliver teaching and achieve our mission.
