The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote economically productive, socially inclusive and environmentally sustainable cities and human settlements. The role of the UN-Habitat New York Office is to ensure and maintain strong linkages between UN-Habitat Nairobi and the UN Headquarters in New York. The New York Office represents UN-Habitat at the intergovernmental and inter-agency level, and serves as the link between UN-Habitat Nairobi and Governments representatives, UN Secretariat departments and other offices, funds and programmes of the UN system. The New York Office contributes to UN-Habitat partnerships, public information and outreach efforts, and ensures that UN-Habitat voice and mandate are considered in these processes and platforms.
