AKTC INDIA

The Aga Khan Trust for Culture, which was founded in 1988, is registered in Geneva, Switzerland, as a private, non-denominational, philanthropic foundation. It is an integral part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a family of institutions created by His Highness the Aga Khan, with distinct yet complementary mandates to improve the welfare and prospects of people in countries in the developing world, particularly in Asia and Africa. Everywhere that we work, we follow a multidimensional approach to poverty alleviation, participatory models of development focused on improving the quality of life for local communities. In India, the Trust is undertaking following two large urban renewal projects: The Nizamuddin Urban Renewal Initiative being undertaken since 2007, is working towards creating a sustainable model for the regeneration of a historic city centre, in a not-for-profit Public Private Partenrship (PPP) model. The project has successfully unified the three segregated zones of Humayun's Tomb - Sundar Nursery - and Nizamuddin Basti into an urban historic district of considerable cultural significance for the city of New Delhi, focussed on Heritage Conservation, Socio-Economic Development initiatives, and Environment Development objectives. For more information on the project, LIKE US on: www.facebook.com/NizamuddinRenewal Nestled at the foot of the majestic Golconda Fort, the Qutb Shahi Heritage Park is spread over 106 acres, and includes 40 mausoleums, 23 mosques, 6 baolis (step-wells), a hamam (mortuary bath), pavilions and garden structures set within a heritage zone of international significance built by the Qutb Shahi rulers.
