Working Group for Peace

The Working Group for Peace (WGP) is a local network formed in 2008 by a group of volunteers working on peace building and conflict transformation and prevention. The WGP has been working with its Thai civil society counterparts, the Thai Volunteer Service (TVS) and the People Empowerment Foundation (PEF) based in Thailand since 2008 focusing on promoting peace building regarding the mentioned conflict between the two countries. Later WGP has expanded its peace building efforts to the Mekong Region through the Mekong Peace Journey and other activities related to youth and peace in ASEAN through Asean Youth Forum and Asean People/Civil Society Forums. Respond to these issues, WGP developed its first strategic plan (2011-2013) with inputs and joint cooperation with regional partners such as TVS, PEF, GPPAC. The WGP has completely accomplished many important activities that brought people from both countries to join in peace building effort resulting in increasingly hundreds of high committed individual actors who become peace builders to influence other people to engage in peace building from over 30 institutes from local and international NGOs, civil society members, grassroots people, academics and youth to devote their time to voluntarily work for peace through the collaboration with and networking for peace building in Mekong region comprising China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.. For example, the WGP have provided opportunities for young adults to join peace learning program and do historical documentation and peace learning program so they are the potential agents for positive change to work together for mutual understanding among neighboring countries and to advocate with their respective governments for peaceful conflict resolution.
