Taiwan Public Affairs and Social Engagement Association
The Taiwan Public Affairs and Social Engagement Association (TW-PASE) was started by Taiwanese youth and students in Edinburgh with the aim of raising awareness, encouraging social proactivity, and fostering discussion regarding Taiwan’s public affairs. The Taiwanese people are descendants of the sea; the Blue Whale is seen as a matriarchal figure, who embodies the Taiwanese diversity and belief of open-mindedness, resilience, and respect for others. With the UK being a fellow island nation, the image of being “borne from the sea” resonates with its geographical relevance. The tide of education and political awareness in the modern day stresses the significance of open dialogue, debate, and social action. Ultimately, at TW-PASE we embrace the values and belief in freedom of speech and democracy; our aim is to guide the populace towards engaging themselves with a flexibility unrestricted by class, age, gender, or race. Through seminars, deliberative forums, reading clubs, cultural workshops, and more, we aim to explore Taiwan's public affairs and social issues, and bring about social engagement to the people of Edinburgh and beyond.
