Shotokan Karate-Do International Federation Sri Lanka
Karate classes conducted in English - instructed by the National Karate Coach - with over 600 students and 08 training locations around the Island – the Shotokan Karate-Do International Federation (SKIF) is the first and largest structured Karate Association in Sri Lanka. Classes are available as individual sessions, school based groups and private group classes. SKIF Sri Lanka is the only affiliated Shotokan body with Shotokan Karate-Do International Federation Japan. SKIF was established in 1978 by Soke Hirokazu Kanazawa (10th DAN) who studied directly under Grand Master Gichin Funakoshi, the founder of Shotokan Karate-Do. SKIF, a Government recognized Specified Non-Profit Organization in Japan has been expanding its activities since its founding and now has affiliated groups in over 130 countries with over two million members worldwide. SKIF Sri Lanka was established by Late Shihan Bonnie Roberts (8th DAN) who is considered the Father of Sri Lankan Karate. The Ceylon Karate Association was first registered by Shihan Bonnie Roberts with the Ministry of Sports, which was later renamed as the Sri Lanka Karate-Do Federation in 1983, the National body for Sri Lankan Karate. Sensei M. N. Jurangpathy (5th DAN) acts as the principal instructor of SKIF’ Sri Lanka. He is a 15 times National Champion and the former Vice President of the Sri Lanka Karate-Do Federation.
