modern sustainable architecture from barcelona ViZ ARQUITECTES is a barcelona based architectural practice specializing in modern sustainable architecture. approximately 80% of the design decisions that influence a building's appearance and energy performance are made by the architect in the concept design phase; the remaining 20% are made by engineers at the later phases of design, usually as corrective measures. orientation, volumetric composition, location and protection determine both the energy consumption and the overall feel of any building. selecting the right design at the concept stage will improve energy performance, and will greatly reduce the need for expensive engineering solutions later on in the design process.our aim is to reduce the overall energy consumption of a building during construction and occupation to an acceptable minimum, and that by actively applying 'green' criteria at an early stage, we can achieve significant reductions in energy use and therefore running costs during the building's useful life, and will also avoid compromising the elegance of the finished building. we speak english, catalan, spanish, german and french, and we generally work, although not exclusively, throughout the iberian peninsula and surrounding islands. commercial clients have included virgin, tommy hilfiger & asics. institutional clients include ajuntament de barcelona, diputació de barcelona, barcelona 22@, renfe (spanish national railway network) and Universitat Ramon Llull. our private clients remain private
