Northwestern University Special Olympics
Northwestern University to Benefit Special Olympics is the oldest and largest collegiate Special Olympics chapter. Our mission is to integrate individuals with developmental disabilities into our community through inclusive programming and events to raise awareness. As the largest and oldest collegiate chapter of Special Olympics in the country, we have spent 42 years planning a annual track and field meet to qualify Illinois athletes for the state Special Olympics games. In our 34th-37th years, we were given the exciting opportunity to hold an event with the Special Olympics Young Athletes Program. This program is designed to introduce children ages 2 to 7 to the values of Special Olympics when they are still too young to formally compete. In the upcoming years, we are planning on expanding our partnership with NU athletics and starting to run a powerlifting competition while maintaining ties to our older Special Olympics programs. Stay tuned for many fun opportunities to get involved with us!
