The Hidden Initiative

The Hidden Initiative strives to spread awareness and understanding for those living with disabilities and mental and/or physical health conditions that aren’t apparent to the naked eye. By stimulating discussion and increasing the visibility of related support services, The Hidden Initiative aspires to minimise the stigma and feeling of shame felt by those with hidden conditions. The aim of our project is to raise funds for selected support organisations whilst engaging with the community to raise awareness. We are currently raising funds to support two local organisations that share our vision; the Stepping Stone Clubhouse and the Literacy Foundation for Children. The Stepping Stone Clubhouse is a membership-based community of people with a mental illness who are dedicated to rebuilding their lives and supporting one another’s recovery. Dedicated to suicide prevention and to ending social and economic isolation for people living with mental illness, the organisation empowers members with opportunities to re-join the worlds of friendships, family, important work, employment, education, safe and affordable housing, and social recreation. The Literacy Foundation for Children is a charity that helps build brighter futures for children with learning disabilities, particularly dyslexia. The foundation helps families by providing them with financial support to offset some of the costs of support services, private assessment and subsequent treatment programs as there is no specific government funding or policy to support these children and many miss out on getting the help they need to learn to read. Any support is greatly appreciated! If the message behind The Hidden Initiative resonates with you, please consider sharing with your friends and family to help us spread the word!
