Vancouver Makers for Emergency Response and Support (YVRMERS)

Vancouver Makers for Emergency Response and Support (VMERS) is a grassroots non-profit initiative to provide free personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline healthcare providers and essential workers in Canada. Currently focused on the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally founded by Sean Wormsbecker (emergency physician, maker), Nick Harrow (maker, project manager) and Kali Readwin (business / marketing consultant) in March 2020, the team has since exploded to 10 core members with the support of 1200+ volunteers and counting. Skilled volunteers include engineers, techie makers, sewing groups, couriers, designers, medical professionals, documentation specialists, community outreach professionals, project managers, and more. It’s our goal to minimize the duplication of efforts and stress on the materials supply chain through collaboration with other local groups and working with local companies. Active projects with oversight and approval from medical professionals include face shields, 3 different types of "ear-saver” comfort accessories (3D printed plastic clip, fabric headbands with buttons and surgical caps), aerosol containment boxes for intubation procedures, and research and development of sterilization technology. There are several more projects in the wings, including the #antiviralart campaign for education and awareness. We’ve been lucky to have media coverage by CBC, Global News, CTV, and a number of other national and provincial media outlets. All funds raised will go to the purchase of materials. To get involved, see the pinned post on the Facebook Page for instructions and watch for frequent updates: Facebook.com/YVRMERS Volunteer Registration is here: https://forms.gle/HzKLBadTau3cHm7J7
