CEO Gunnar Birkenfeldt founded Birkenfest AS in 2017, as a combined consulting and event bureau. The main attraction is the annual Ice Festival event that gather 100+ contestants who ice-race on a frozen lake in the deep forest of the National Park of Femundsmarka, Norway. What started as a meeting amongst friends and colleagues in 2008 quickly grew to an international event with participants and audience from the whole of Europe. The event has seen media coverage from both national and international broadcasters and was visited by journalists from seven European countries in 2012. Former US Ambassador Barry B White also paid the festival a visit in 2013.
