Together & Free
Together & Free is a non-profit organization focused on assisting disadvantaged families in the US. We started as a small group of business professionals in NYC and Boston, many of us with young children ourselves. We've now grown to a network of volunteers across 46 states. We are parents, siblings, daughters, and sons; We are currently working to assist the families separated at the border. We are assisting families that have been reunited and those who are still detained. We coordinate with established organizations such as RAICES, Texas Civil Rights Group, Lutheran Services, the ACLU, Annunciation House, Grassroots Leadership, and others, to fill in the gaps. We let the experts be the experts and we assist where unexpected needs arise in this unprecedented situation. To date we are working with over 150 families: coordinating to help free them while they are still inside detention centers and shelters, accompanying them to their first post-release ICE appointments, and helping them register their children for school. There are now over one thousand recently-reunited families who will need support for an extended period-of-time across the United States, and hundreds more who are still separated because they remain detained, or because the parent was deported and the child is stuck in the US. We anticipate significant challenges on the horizon for all of these families: ensuring stable and secure housing, attending to mental, emotional, and physical healing, overcoming legal hurdles in locations where we will need to pay for representation, and continual efforts toward release and reunification for those families not yet together and free. Our work has only just begun.
