Bryan Parkway Civic Association
1939 The Bryan Parkway Association was established in 1939. 1945 In January, by-laws were submitted to the residents for review. As described in this early version of the by-laws, certificates of stock were issued by the association. Any person (not necessarily a resident of the neighborhood) desiring to become a stockholder was required to purchase 2 shares of stock at the value of $5.00 each. This stock purchase would include the first year of membership. The association had 85 members this year. 1952 Henrico County began providing trash collection to the neighborhood. Later in the year, 24 hour police protection was added to this area. Association documents state that there were 239 active memberships in 1952. 1958 A team of directors was established for incorporation purposes. On December 18, 1958 this group officially created the Bryan Parkway Civic Association Incorporated. 2019 Through a strong membership campaign the associations’ membership grew 118%. County records document that the Bryan Parkway Association is one of the oldest and most active in Henrico County. Throughout the years the association has maintained the mission “to serve the residents of the Bryan Parkway Subdivision in the promotion of civic and social activities for community care and improvement”. Social events such as the annual picnic and holiday party have been traditions for several decades that are still recurring with strong member participation. Due to increasing costs or decreasing participation some events such as the holiday decorating contests, formal banquet dinners and cake walks have been discontinued over the years. The board of directors has been able to introduce new activities such as neighborhood clean-up day and movie nights as a method to continuously work to provide the members of the association appropriate civic and social activities. Recently the board has been able to introduced new activities such as Taste of Bryan Parkway, Yard of the Month, and Movie night.
