Trinity MENA Review
The Trinity MENA Review is a student-run journal that strives to examine contemporary issues in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Our review provides a platform for academic and journalistic style essays, photography, poetry and any other content which engages in critical analysis on the MENA region. In the process, we aim to mobilise themes including, but not limited to, post-colonialism, global justice, and Orientalism. Alongside critical perspectives of the MENA region, we also aim to examine how our Western academic, artistic, media and government institutions interact with the Middle East and North Africa. In this sense, our review aims to counterbalance and challenge what is often quite a Euro-centric discourse on and understanding of the region. We are particularly interested in exploring the theme of post-colonialism, given that our review is based in Ireland, which has its own complex relationship with colonialism as a modern ‘Western’ country with a history in the British Empire.
