Singapore Teochew Lee Clan Association 新加坡潮州陇西李氏公会

The Singapore Teochew Lee Clan Association was founded based on a combination of geographical and blood ties. It started out as "The Lee Company" which was established in 1890. In 1892, the clan was built on Grange Road, Mount Tai Swa Ting. In order to establish relations, the Ching Ming Festival was establised as an annual affair. Before the Second World War, the main founders of the group were 李伟南,李合平,李玉波,李子琳,李兴才. From 1942 to 1945, business stalled. After the Japanese had surrendered, business resumed. No. 17 Colombia, Gate Street was leased as a temporary location. In order to promote the expansion of the business that was left behind by the ancestors, the name of the clan was changed to "新星洲潮桥陇西互助社". In 1948, as a result of the development of the services that were offered, the location at Colombia, Gate Street (commonly known as Hotel Street) faced a shortage of space, thus the group moved to Taishan to enjoy the former address at Kranji Road, as well as make repairs to the location. In 1949, a grand ceremony was held to celebrate the 60th anniversary and a special souvenir was published as well. In 1952, the gong and drums band was established. However, due to the unfavorable environment during that time, it was dissolved in 1965. On March 1965, a General Assembly was held. And the society changed its name to the "Singapore Teochew Clan Association. It was further renamed to "Singapore Teochew Lee Clan Association". In 1969, the establishment of a welfare department was established in order to provide mutual assistance to the members. On November 1977, as the ancestral hall was established, it also hosted its first winter festival, and celebrated its 87th anniversary and held a grand celebration. In 1981, the association's land at Grange Road was to be acquired by the government. Thus they had to look for another location to move the club to. A fund raising was held for the purpose of the new club. Finally, Tessensohn road was purchased as the permanent site for the club. On 21st September 1983, the new club was officially opened. In 1990, the Association celebrated its 100th anniversary, a special magazine was published to commemorate the 100 years of history at the club. A youth department as well as a traditional gong and drums band was established. In 1995, a magazine was published as well to commemorate the association's 105th anniversary. The Singapore Teochew Lee Clan Association is part of the Teochew Main Association group of Eight. The president of the association today is 李为万。
