North African Policy Initiative
What is NAPI? The North African Policy Initiative (NAPI) is an independent, non-partisan, and non-profit association based in Tunis that is registered as a non-governmental organization in Tunisia and France.. NAPI seeks to foster and support the production of evidence-based research, the articulation of policy analysis and recommendations in excellent writing, their dissemination in three languages (Arabic, English, and French), and their promotion through effective public communication and advocacy. In short, NAPI seeks to enable knowledgeable and engaged youth to produce policy research, analysis, and advice, and to connect them with key stakeholders, including national and international decision-makers, international organizations, journalists, and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). Why a youth policy initiative in North Africa? The good functioning of democracy relies on the regular, transparent, and inclusive debate of ideas and perspectives between and among citizens and civil servants. The 2011 uprisings brought about more democratic and participatory institutions in most North African countries. However, these institutions are not accompanied by the rich deliberative policy-making process that is their key driving force. Young North Africans are best placed to fill this void. Having matured during the 2011 uprisings and their aftermaths, they are best placed to understand the changing context and its challenges, and to propose solutions. NAPI vision and objectives NAPI envisions the large, active, and fruitful participation of North African youth in the elaboration of policy that will shape their community, country, and region. To this end, NAPI seeks to enable a generation of North African youth to carry out rigorous research, articulate evidence-based policy advice, and convey it effectively.
