AI prompt

Find out why an outbound list isn’t converting

Tools: Claude ▪ Lusha

Personal details in live examples on this page are masked: names and companies to initials, email domain hidden, no phone numbers shown.

When outbound isn’t converting, the list is usually the first thing to check and the last thing anyone checks. This prompt runs every row of a list that went quiet through the Lusha connector for Claude and tells you, contact by contact, whether the person moved, changed role, has a different email now, sits outside your persona, or works at an account with no reason to buy this quarter.

You get a diagnosis per row, a count of what went wrong, and a fix list, before you send another email to the same list.

The prompt

<context>
I sent outbound to the list below and it isn't converting: [replies, bounces and meetings so far].
My target persona: [titles, seniority, department].
My ICP: [industry, company size, region].
The list was built on: [date].

List (name, company, title and email as they appear on my list):
[paste rows or attach the CSV]
</context>

<task>
Use Lusha to diagnose every row before I send anything else.

1. Check credits first. Run account_usage, which is free, and tell me what the full run will cost before spending anything.
2. Role check. For each contact, check Lusha for a company change or promotion signal, and compare their current company and title with what my list says. Mark every row where the person has left the account or moved out of my target persona, with the date it happened.
3. Email check. Compare the email on my list with the current verified work email. Search first, and reveal the email only for rows that failed the role check or where the domain on my list doesn't match the current company. Show the confidence grade and update date for every revealed email.
4. Timing check. Score each account on active buying signals. Mark accounts with no active signal, and name the signals behind the strongest ones.
5. Persona check. Mark contacts whose current title or seniority is outside my target persona.

Then give each row one diagnosis: Moved, Role changed, Wrong email, Off persona, No timing or Clean.
</task>

<output>
- A table: contact, company on my list, what Lusha shows now, diagnosis, fix
- A summary: the count per diagnosis and the single biggest cause
- A fix list: a new verified contact for every Moved row, the person now in that seat at the old account, and the five accounts with the strongest timing to work first
- The credits the run used
</output>

<constraints>
- Do not send, sequence or write anything to my CRM.
- Do not reveal phone numbers unless I ask.
- If a row can't be matched in Lusha, say so. Don't guess.
- Use the dates from the signals, not estimates.
</constraints>

What you'll get back

The situation

We ran the diagnostic on October 25, 2026 against 20 sales leaders at US software companies with 51 to 500 employees. The role check looked back to April 1, 2026, so any contact who moved since then would still sit at their old employer on a list built in March.

Role and email check: 4 of 20 rows failed

ContactWhat a March list would showWhat Lusha shows nowDiagnosisFix
M.W.Regional Director at S.VP of Sales at A., since July 1, 2026Moved, role changedNew work email m.w@[company].com, confidence A+
C.B.At L. (previous title not returned)Head of Global Sales at Z., since April 1, 2026MovedNew work email c.b@[company].io, confidence A+, updated Oct 25, 2026
J.S.Director of Mid-Market Sales at N.Regional VP of Sales and Business Development at R., since August 1, 2026Moved, role changedNew work email j.s@[company].com, confidence A+, updated Oct 25, 2026
M.O.VP of Sales at M.Head of Enterprise Sales, Americas at C., since August 1, 2026Moved, seniority changedNew work email m.o@[company].com, confidence A+, updated Oct 25, 2026. Recheck persona: a director-level title now

The other 16 contacts were still in the same seat, with no company change or promotion in the window. On a list built in March, the four rows above would have sent email to addresses at their old employers.

Timing check: every account had at least one active signal

Account signal scoreAccountsWhat the signals were
0.75 to 110Hiring surge, headcount growth over 1 to 12 months, IT spend increase, and on six of them a website traffic increase
0.5 to 0.6257Hiring surge plus headcount growth or an IT spend increase
0.375 or lower3One or two signals. The lowest account showed a hiring surge only

No account came back with zero signals. This sample was fast-growing software companies, so expect more No timing rows on a broader list. The three lowest-scoring accounts go to the bottom of the next sequence, not the top.

Credits the run used

30 credits: 1 for the search that returned the 20 contacts, 6 for the signal events returned, 20 for the account scores, and 3 for email reveals. One of the four emails had been revealed on this account before and cost nothing. The credit check at the start is free.

Contacts confirmed live via Lusha connector, October 25, 2026. Four in twenty is a small sample, not a rate. Lusha’s measured rate is 12.25% of US sales leaders changing roles in 12 months, against 148,000 records in September 2026: B2B data decay, measured.

Why it works

A list fails for one of a few reasons, and a reply rate can’t tell you which. Lusha inside Claude checks each one against dated data. Company change and promotion signals give the date a seat changed hands, so “the list is stale” becomes four named rows and four dates. Every revealed email carries a confidence grade and an update date. Account signal scores separate accounts with a reason to buy now from accounts with none. Because the prompt searches before it reveals and the credit check is free, the diagnosis costs a fraction of sending to the same list again. Lusha collects business contact information only and does not scrape social platforms: data sources and the Trust Center.

FAQ

How many contacts can I run at once?

Signal checks take up to 25 contacts per call and account scoring up to 50, so Claude batches larger lists automatically. For a list of a few hundred rows, expect it to run in several passes.

What does a run cost?

The credit check is free. A search costs 1 credit per 25 results, each signal event returned costs 1, each account score 1, an email reveal 1 and a phone reveal 5. Our 20-contact run used 30 credits. Current plans: lusha.com/pricing.

How far back does the role check look?

In our run, the signal window returned was the last six months. For lists older than that, the prompt also compares each contact’s current company and title with what your list says, so earlier moves still show up.

Will it send emails or change my CRM?

No. The prompt reads, scores and reveals emails for the rows that need them. It does not send, sequence or write to your CRM unless you ask it to in a follow-up.

What if the rows come back Clean?

Then the data isn’t the problem. Look at the timing column first: accounts with low signal scores are the usual next suspect. If timing is strong too, the message or the offer is what needs work.
