Part of a series. The overview of what each server can do once connected, with credit costs, is Best MCP for sales data.

Several tools market lookalike prospecting as a headline feature. Fewer of them have actually built it into their MCP, the thing that matters if the goal is running lookalike search from inside Claude or ChatGPT, not just the product’s own UI. We checked four: Lusha, Apollo, Explorium’s Vibe Prospecting, and CompanyEnrich, against what’s actually confirmed in each one’s official MCP documentation, not what’s advertised on the product page.

TL;DR

  • What it is: A comparison of MCP servers for lookalike company and contact matching, checked against each provider’s actual confirmed MCP tool list, not just their platform features.
  • Best overall: Lusha, with a dedicated lookalike matching tool confirmed in its MCP, verified underlying data, and published AI compliance certification.
  • Feature exists, not in the MCP yet: Apollo has lookalike search in its platform, people lookalikes in beta, company lookalikes generally available, but it isn’t in the official Apollo MCP’s confirmed tool list.
  • Unconfirmed: Explorium’s Vibe Prospecting references lookalike matching in marketing content, but its own official capability list doesn’t include a dedicated lookalike tool.
  • Also confirmed: CompanyEnrich has lookalike discovery built into its API and a custom MCP server, smaller company database than the others here.

How we evaluated

  • Is lookalike matching an actual confirmed tool in the MCP, or just a platform feature? A feature that only works in a product’s own UI doesn’t help an agent running inside Claude or ChatGPT.
  • Is the underlying data verified at the source?
  • Minimum inputs and how the matching actually works, where documented.
  • Compliance posture and published resources.

1. Lusha

Lusha’s MCP includes a dedicated lookalike matching tool: give it a set of reference companies, at least five, and it returns matches based on underlying company profile, not brand recognition. That’s a genuine, confirmed capability, not a marketing reference to a concept, and it runs on the same verified data layer as everything else in Lusha’s MCP.

Worth being honest about how it performs in practice. In our own testing, running the lookalike tool against a set of well-known enterprise data-platform companies returned early-stage, small companies rather than obvious enterprise peers. That’s the model matching on underlying signal similarity rather than size or brand, which is arguably the more useful behavior for surfacing accounts a manual search would miss, but it means the output can look different from what you’d expect if you’re picturing bigger, more recognizable names. Pair the prompt with a company size filter if that’s what you’re after, or see the full Lusha Plays library for more worked examples like this one.

Pros

  • Dedicated lookalike matching tool, confirmed in the MCP, not just the platform UI
  • Matches on underlying company profile, verified at the source
  • ISO 27701 and ISO 42001 certified
  • One-click install, native on Claude and ChatGPT

Cons

  • Requires at least 5 reference companies to run
  • Results can skew toward smaller, less recognizable matches, worth pairing with a size filter if scale matters

Best for

Teams that want to run lookalike search directly from Claude or ChatGPT, not just inside a separate platform UI, and are comfortable interpreting results that prioritize profile match over brand familiarity.

2. Apollo

Apollo genuinely has lookalike search, people lookalikes currently in beta, company lookalikes generally available, accessible through the Apollo platform UI and Chrome extension. What we couldn’t confirm is that it’s exposed through Apollo’s official MCP. The MCP’s documented, confirmed capabilities are people search, organization search, enrichment, contact creation, sequence management, and sales analytics, no lookalike tool appears in that list.

Worth knowing if the plan is to run lookalike matching from inside an AI agent specifically, rather than the Apollo product itself.

Pros

  • Real lookalike feature in the platform, both people and company matching
  • Strong overall MCP, with write access into CRM fields and sequences

Cons

  • Lookalike matching not confirmed among the official MCP’s documented tools
  • People lookalikes still in beta even at the platform level

Best for

Teams that want lookalike search inside the Apollo product itself. Not currently confirmed as an AI-agent-native capability through the MCP.

3. Explorium (Vibe Prospecting)

Explorium’s own official capability list for Vibe Prospecting covers company search, contact discovery and enrichment, firm research, and export, no dedicated lookalike tool appears in it. Separate marketing content mentions lookalike matching as a concept agents can pursue mid-task, but that’s a positioning statement, not a confirmed, named tool in the documented capability set.

Pros

  • Broad aggregated company and contact coverage, 150M+ companies
  • One-click install, native on Claude and ChatGPT

Cons

  • No dedicated lookalike tool confirmed in the official capability list
  • Aggregated data, not verified at the source
  • No compliance certification found published

Best for

Broad company and contact search generally. Not the confirmed choice specifically for lookalike matching through the MCP.

4. CompanyEnrich

CompanyEnrich confirms lookalike discovery directly: drop in a company URL and it returns similar companies based on shared characteristics, described specifically as built for ICP-based prospecting. It has a custom MCP server usable with Claude, though without a dedicated Claude Code plugin or skill set the way some others here have.

Its database is smaller than Explorium’s, 30M companies and 170M contacts.

Pros

  • Lookalike discovery confirmed and purpose-built for ICP-based prospecting
  • Custom MCP server usable with Claude

Cons

  • No dedicated Claude Code plugin or skill set
  • Smaller database than Explorium’s aggregated coverage
  • No compliance certification found published

Best for

Teams that specifically want confirmed lookalike discovery via MCP and don’t need the largest possible underlying database.

How to choose

Want lookalike matching confirmed inside your AI agent, on verified data? Lusha is built for that specifically.

Already using Apollo and want lookalikes? Use the platform feature directly for now, it isn’t confirmed in the MCP yet.

Want the broadest general search and enrichment, with lookalikes as a secondary concern? Explorium covers that, just don’t expect a dedicated lookalike tool.

Want confirmed lookalike discovery and don’t need the largest database? CompanyEnrich is built specifically for that use case.

FAQs

Does Apollo’s MCP support lookalike search?

Not confirmed. Apollo’s platform has lookalike search for both people and companies, but the official Apollo MCP’s documented tool list, search, enrichment, contacts, sequences, and analytics, doesn’t include a lookalike tool.

How many reference companies does Lusha’s lookalike tool need?

At least five. More reference accounts give the matching model a clearer pattern to work from.

Why did Lusha’s lookalike search return smaller, less familiar companies?

The model matches on underlying company profile and signal similarity, not brand recognition or size. That can surface companies a manual search would miss, but it means results won’t always look like obvious, well-known peers. Pairing the prompt with a company size filter narrows this.

Does Explorium’s Vibe Prospecting have a lookalike tool?

Not confirmed as a distinct tool. Its official documented capabilities cover company search, contact discovery, enrichment, and export. Lookalike matching is referenced in marketing content but doesn’t appear as a named tool in the capability list.

Conclusion

Lookalike prospecting gets marketed more often than it’s actually built into an MCP. Lusha and CompanyEnrich both have it confirmed and working. Apollo has the feature, just not yet in its MCP. Explorium references the concept without a confirmed dedicated tool. Worth checking the actual documented capability list before assuming a product’s platform feature works the same way through an AI agent.
