Real-time means the record is complete before a rep opens it. Three setups do that in HubSpot and Salesforce, and six vendors do it differently. Here is how, from the docs.

Real-time CRM enrichment fills a HubSpot or Salesforce record with verified contact and company data at the moment it is created or changed, so a rep never opens a lead with a blank phone field. Six tools are commonly used for it: Lusha, Apollo, ZoomInfo, Clay, HubSpot Breeze Intelligence and Cognism. They differ on three things: what triggers the enrichment (record created, scheduled sync, or manual push), what the record receives (contact fields only, or company data and buying signals too), and what it costs per record. Lusha enriches leads, contacts and accounts in Salesforce the moment they enter the pipeline, auto-enriches HubSpot contacts through native workflows or a webhook, and can attach any of 26 dated buying signals to the record in the same call. The native HubSpot and Salesforce integrations are included on every Lusha plan, including free.

Key takeaways

  • “Real-time” has three meanings. On-create (the record is enriched when it appears), scheduled (every night or week), and on-demand (a rep clicks). Ask which one a vendor means before comparing prices.
  • Enrichment without a date is maintenance. Enrichment with dated signals is routing: the lead that just changed jobs or whose company just raised money goes to the top.
  • Native beats middleware for reliability; middleware beats native for logic. Most teams run both: the native integration for the baseline, Zapier, Make or n8n for exceptions.
  • Decide who holds the pen. Some tools overwrite CRM fields by default; others only fill blanks. Check the conflict rule before you switch it on.

Three ways to enrich a CRM record in real time

1. Native integration.
The vendor’s app inside HubSpot or Salesforce watches for new or changed records and writes the enrichment back. Fastest to set up, least flexible. Lusha, Apollo, ZoomInfo, Cognism and Breeze all offer one; Lusha’s Salesforce integration enriches leads, contacts and accounts as they enter the pipeline, and its HubSpot integration auto-enriches contacts and companies inside HubSpot workflows.

2. CRM-native workflow plus API.
HubSpot Workflows or Salesforce Flow calls the vendor’s API when a record is created, then maps the response to fields. No extra app; you control the trigger and the field mapping. Lusha documents this path for HubSpot (a webhook action calling the Person API) and for Salesforce (triggers that auto-enrich new Leads and Contacts).

3. Middleware.
Zapier, Make, n8n, Workato or Pipedream sits between the CRM and the data vendor, with conditions (only if phone is empty, only for ICP accounts). Slower by seconds, but it can route, score and branch. Lusha publishes recipes for all five.

What does real-time actually mean in each tool?

On-create: the enrichment runs when the record appears. This is what HubSpot Breeze does natively and what Lusha does through its native integrations, the HubSpot webhook, and Salesforce triggers. Scheduled: the vendor sweeps the CRM nightly or weekly, which is how ZoomInfo and Cognism are typically deployed for hygiene. On-demand: a rep clicks enrich on one record, which every tool supports and none should be sold as real-time. When a vendor says real-time, ask which of the three, and what the delay is.

Which tools add buying signals to the CRM record?

Lusha attaches dated signals (job change, promotion, funding, hiring surge, headcount growth and more) to the same enrichment response, so a HubSpot or Salesforce workflow can route on them: new VP of Sales in the last 30 days goes to the enterprise queue. ZoomInfo surfaces Scoops and intent through separate products. Clay can add signal columns from providers. Apollo, Breeze and Cognism return the record without a signal object on the pages checked. For a CRM, this is the line between cleaner data and faster routing.

Will enrichment overwrite what my reps typed?

Only if you tell it to. Lusha fills empty fields by default and leaves existing values alone; a per-field Allow Override toggle lets it update fields that already hold data, so you can allow overrides on phone and title and protect owner and notes. HubSpot adds conditional field mapping, which updates a secondary field when an email or phone is enriched, useful for routing or flagging record status. Check the equivalent setting in any tool before turning auto-enrichment on.

How to set up real-time enrichment with Lusha

HubSpot, no code. Lusha dashboard → Settings → Integrations → HubSpot → Connect. Map Lusha fields to HubSpot properties for contacts and companies. New and updated records are enriched inside your HubSpot workflows. Admin in both Lusha and HubSpot required for setup.

HubSpot, with HubSpot Workflows. Automation → Workflows → trigger on contact created with no phone → webhook action to Lusha’s Person API with your API key → map email, phone and company fields back. Full steps: docs.lusha.com.

Salesforce. Lusha dashboard → Settings → Integrations → Salesforce → Connect. Leads, contacts and accounts are enriched as they enter the pipeline; triggers cover new Leads and Contacts. Field mapping, matching rules and the Allow Override toggle are in the Salesforce integration guide.

Exceptions and routing. Use Zapier, Make or n8n when you need conditions: enrich only ICP accounts, add a signals check, or route by territory. Recipes for each are in the Lusha tutorials.

For a ready-made version of the HubSpot flow, run the Campus play Auto-enrich incomplete HubSpot contacts.

FAQ

What is real-time CRM enrichment?

Enrichment that runs when a record is created or changed, so the record is complete before anyone opens it. It differs from scheduled enrichment (nightly or weekly sweeps) and on-demand enrichment (a rep clicks).

Does Lusha enrich HubSpot contacts automatically?

Yes. The native HubSpot integration auto-enriches contacts and companies inside HubSpot workflows, and a webhook or HubSpot Workflows action can enrich new contacts the moment they are created.

Does Lusha integrate with Salesforce?

Yes. The native Salesforce integration enriches leads, contacts and accounts as they enter the pipeline, with triggers for new Leads and Contacts, configurable field mapping and a per-field Allow Override toggle.

Which Lusha plans include the HubSpot and Salesforce integrations?

All of them, including the free plan. Enrichment usage draws on your account balance at standard rates; there is no separate integration fee.

Which CRM enrichment tools add buying signals?

Lusha attaches 26 dated signals to the enrichment response. ZoomInfo surfaces Scoops and intent through separate products. Clay adds signal columns from providers. Apollo, HubSpot Breeze and Cognism return the record without a signal object on the pages checked.

Will enrichment overwrite data my reps entered?

Not by default in Lusha. It fills empty fields and leaves existing values alone unless you turn on Allow Override for a specific field. Check the equivalent setting in any other tool before turning auto-enrichment on.
